I suppose it’s mundane to acknowledge the brands have value, but it remains fascinating to me that a firm can charge more in one country than another, simply because the population has a different view of the brand—not the product—than neighbours across the border.

There’s value upstream (from recycling) in the used electronics space. Case in point- Gazelle which is growing fast.  Best Buy may not have the flexibility of entering the space because it’s existing manufacturer relationships could get in the way.

The most disappointing answer is when they say “Oh, we’ll just make it viral.” As if virality is something you can choose to add in after the product is baked - like a spell checker.

The challenge of getting audience/distribution/customers for web services is so hard it’s the #1 reason to release early. If you release late you could spend a year of money on a product you could have found out a year ago doesn’t have a large enough audience. You can buy or trick an audience into looking at your product but you can’t make them stay there if it doesn’t hold them.
